Evening all :D

Does anyone know how much the MK1 MR2 weighs?

Also is there enough room do you think in the rear for a 3SGTE swap?

Cheers

Yes there is room its been done, think the guy posts regularly on the mr2oc forum. Last post I remember seeing from him he was thinking of selling it, starting a new project I think. Its amazingly quick apparently as it weighs so much less than the Mk2

It has indeed been done, and a google search will confirm this. There is a site out there that has documented the swap, but I can't find the damn link at the moment :(.

The weight of a MK1 is reported to be: 1052 kg / 2319 lbs

Cheers for your help guys, i've been reading the MK1 3SGTE conversion writeups on mr2oc.com and a sub 5secs 0-60 sounds very nice.

Thanks Again

Thanks dude, thats one i've been reading.

I've come across a VERY cheak MR2 MK1 and the weight of these really appeals to me as im looking to build a low 10's 1/4 car.

Looks a lot of work that 3sgte install, he says he has a 0-60 of under 5secs! on a stock rev2 3sgte as well!

Im thinking that with a rev3 engine and nitros oxide you would take another second off that.

Something to aspire to ;) Ben Sindjelics AW11 currently pulls a 10.66 quarter at 131.13 mph..........1.6 litre with street tyres and lots of clever mods resulting in a power output of around 274kw at the wheels.

Plenty of room in the engine bay for a 3sgte (having had a good poke around a nice one at Billing Aerodrome last year). You'll lose the rear boot space though (no great loss).

Or if you want to keep the engine size down, grab a late spec 4agze from a Levin (8:1 compression if I remember right and ceramic coated pistons), yank off the SC assembly and spend some time building (or sourcing) a turbo assembly for it. That's the plan on mine. Working on a 4age turbo conversion first (spare engine, if it dies I dont care) using a t-25 from a Nissan 200sx.

I'll have a rummage around, sure I've got some good up-close pics of the 3sgte fitted engine bay somewhere.

I am planning a GZE-conversion for my N/A-AW11 because the original GE died 1000 km after the rebuild of the body (one year of hard work: http://www.toyotacarina.de/mr2bericht/karosse.htm ).

One guy in Germany is planning a GTE-conversion to the time, but this is to much work and to far from original for me. I want the keep the possibility to rebuild a original Fritzinger out of my car. You will have to cut to much holes to the chassis for the 3S-GTE...

best regards, Eric

Thanks guys, i've been doing a lot of thinking about this 3sgte conversion but im VERY short on space and welding experience. I've never taken on a project of this size before and am not sure i can pull it off.

So im thinking of doing something a little more reserved and getting a Supercharged mk1 or a na mk1 and then supercharging it.

Im gonna start a poll to see what people think because im not sure which way to go still.

Getting a supercharged one would be less work initially but i hear the later spec engines are much better and it would be nice to have a UK model.

More importantly im gonna Nitro's up the car so does anyone know how much bhp the stock components will take?

Cheers Guys
