Yes, The iq3 does have an EGR valve. I haven't seen it yet but it's somewhere behind the engine near the inlet manifold. I'll go looking one day when I'm under the bonnet. :)

You can't let the presence of an EGR valve put you off buying a car though, They are generally reliable things and for the ones you hear about having problems there are many thousands out there working fine.

Sorry but i am bumping this thread since its one of the early ones, for some new to the problems talked about here,

but really for those that think the problem is some myth or exaggerated problem.

without dangers to those that have an engine die on them.

Toyota may or may not monitor topics and posts on TOC - don't know.

If they don't, making posts on TOC suggesting recall or similar action may be wasted effort.

If owners are concerned about problems with their vehicle which may be safety related, there is a mechanism for reporting vehicle safety defects via VOSA - see https://www.gov.uk/report-vehicle-safety-defect (which also includes some guidance on vehicle safety defects). This may be a more effective method of making Toyota aware of your concerns.

Good idea and information.

Is there a difference when Forum Staff or Moderators post in every thread on a subject than when a Forum Member does.??

The Member was accused of SPAMMING.

Is this Forum so far up Toyotas Rear End that the STAFF are afraid of action against them.??

Some need to Man up and get some Balls maybe.

Toyota seem to like Positive Results in Consumer Surveys.

Best Used Car, Best Dealership, Best Used car over 4 years Old etc.

They should not need told to do the right thing by monitoring forums,

they have Dealership Employees that meet and greet and ignore that defend them on Forums and can Contact their Pay Masters

and keep aware of Customer Concerns and Safety Matters.

Toyota need to look after their reputation by earning the reputation.

For Buyers of used cars.

Forearmed is Forewarned.

"The Car in front is a Toyota".

'Some from 2009-2010 1.0 Euro 4 Engine iQ's might grind to a halt in front of you'.

Factual and to the point.

'Maybe a pinned post on the information given in #28 would be useful.

it could save the need to keep bumping the subject.

But as Toyota have been aware of the Problem for over 24 months,

it may be the case that the subject does not need bumped.

It is a recurring problem for some buyers of Used Toyotas that were not dealt with by Toyota when in the Original Owners hands.

That was when many cars were within Warranty and Toyota had the chance to contact Owners that they had the Ability to Contact without any Data Protection Issue.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I'm having trouble with my EGR too...

My car is a 2009 iQ with 96000 miles.

ive owned since 2014 and to my knowledge it has never been recalled. 

I have all the symptoms ( lack of power and un even running )

Having read this thread I booked my car into the local Toyota main dealer for a diagnostic ( at a cost of £150 ). They have said the fault is the egr and the manifold is quite blocked. They wanted to replace both at a cost of £1300 plus the diagnostic. I was expecting an offer to replace at least the value as goodwill as it's a known fault. 

They mentioned the manifold was mentioned but this was not the cause so they would not cover that either.

im not sure what to do next.

You can use the recall checker to determine whether or not your car may be affected by a recall - https://www.toyota.co.uk/owners/vehicle-information/recall-checker

It isn't the dealer who decides on goodwill - an approach would need to be made to Toyota GB, who would contact the dealer to establish what the issue actually is, and will then come back to you.

Bear in mind that anything other than a full Toyota service history, may affect whether goodwill is offered. Goodwill works both ways - you show goodwill by having the car serviced by Toyota dealerships, and Toyota show goodwill by offering help with out of warranty repairs where applicable. Also goodwill may be a contribution to repair costs, rather than the full cost of repairs.

Other manufacturers adopt a similar approach to requests for goodwill.

As a starting point, does your car have a full Toyota service history?

I am on a service plan too, and so far I have never had an itemised "bill" of what they have done, though next time I think I will ask for a checklist so I can see what they should have done

This has got to be a good enough reason to list on the forum all the possible independent Toyota garages, but I have to say I can't find one in the southampton postcode area.

With service plans the 'itemised bill' goes to the company managing the service plan. Owners may ask for copies. This happens with most service plans regardless of vehicle manufacturer.

BTW the post is over 7 years old.

Possibly, but members will need to provide details of these garages for a list to be compiled, and for the list to be useful, some sort of recommendation. Although I've seen garages advertising as being 'Toyota specialists', I haven't seen anything to back these claims up.

My car does not have full Toyota service history. It is my 4th Toyota car but they are unlikely to know that.
