1984 Tercel Wagon Help!

Hi all, this is my first post at these forums, it seems that there are plenty of intelligent helpful people here. So I hope I can get my questions answered. The problem is that I just bought a 1984 Tercel Wagon (not 4wd) and it only has 2nd, 4th, 5th and rev. 1st and 3rd grind as I am releasing the clutch. I would like to identify the problem since the guy at the local toy garage is a damn fool. I was told by him to completely replace the entire tranny without even looking or listening to it. Bull, not unless I have to. I was thinking it may be a synchros, throw-out bearing, or holding fork. But seeing in how I know almost nothing about cars, I'd like to know how to check these parts. Thank you in advance.

Also, does anyone know of a good site to get parts for my car of its age. I need a few accesory parts such as a cover for hatch area. I only bought this car for 140.00 us dollars, so i think I did pretty good hehe.

Never mind at this point, Ive decided to just deal with only having 2 4 5 & R, it will all get replaced with the new wngine anyway. Thanks anywho.
