Just done a service of my 1997 1.6 corolla (82,802) miles i changed the oil with carlube 5/30 fully synthetic, now i have noticed a taping under the rocker.I have had a look and Halfords say 5/30 but my haynes says to use 10w/30 or 15w/30 and only use 5w/30 in the face lift vvti engine, can some one please tell me what is the differance between all these oils and what sort should i have in ? infact while doing a search on here some one said use 10w/40 semi synthetic ??? can some one please help

is it a VVt 1.6 ???

if so,its ok,otherwise,5-30 is reccomended for temperatures below 17c

in an engine of 82k,i would reccomend the 10-30,it will cope with the summer heat more,

Hey,

More than likely you had a thicker and much older oil in your engine, the newer thinner oil will more than likey emphasize any slight play.

Looking at Castrols site Magntec 10/40W is their recommendation - think thats a semi mix.

It might be like their 5/30W synthetic, available in 2 types one for Ford and one for Vauxhalls, check the charts at the supplier for the exact type.

A little tapping, particulary when cold is not that much of a problem, if it really sounds loud when hot, perhap some adjustment is needed.
