Battery Choice

Hi,

After posting at the end of last year that the Battery in my Rav (4.2 petrol) had lasted nearly 8 years, guess what!! It decided to play silly games today.

So im after a recommendation for a new Battery, but am a little confused. If I check the Halfrauds website its says the Battery to fit my car is a 053, yet when I look at the picture the + is on the right and the - is on the left??? When I had to jump start today the + was on the left and the - is on the right.

So which battery is correct, and whats the biggest battery I can fit in there? What would be a recommended replacement?

Cheers

Kev will give you the part No for a diesel Battery. It fits in no problems.

Thanks anchorman. I thought I read somewhere that the bigger diesel Battery would fit, but I couldn't find the post where it mentioned this.

Just done a check on various websites, checking both the petrol and diesel fit batteries and am still confused as most of them show the + on the right????

They tend to use a common catalogue but it might be that the Battery goes in the other way round.This is Halfords diesel version;

and if you use the outer holes of the hold down bracket they fit;

Hi Chris,

Your uncle's shop supplied me with an HB072 (Posi Terminal to LEFT), and it fits fine by moving the Battery clamps to their outermost extremity (or as we say up here...."as faur as they wull go".....)

£90.00 with 3 years warranty, but check with Mr. T as well and he will do same warranty Battery possibly wee bit cheaper....ah mean, your family's shop not the cheapest....lol.

Big Kev

:blushing:

Oh shucks, you found out!

Unfortunately (or should that be fortunately) it be by name only, nowt to do with Halfrauds myself im afraid, honest......

Im guessing this be the one you talking about: http://www.halfords....tegoryId_165762

Any ideas where I could get an equivalent one at a cheaper price, as Mr Government is taking all my wages in Petrol to get to work (irony in there somewhere).

What about this one: http://www.tayna.co....tery-P3217.html

or even: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bosch-S4027-Car-Battery-Type-069-072-4-Year-Guarantee-/251062897508#ht_2098wt_1396

What a coincidence that the Tayna Battery attached to your Varta (great batteries....but what's an "Asia" model ?) has the "072" code number same as the Halford one, Chris.....!!!!

What does one mean a coincidence that the Tanya Battery attached to your Varta??

Yeah, I don't understand the bit 'Custom-made for all Asian automobiles with the silver technology' either???? What are they special cars that require special batteries, they only run on silver, DOH!

Even more strange is the two different Varta batteries shown on this page: http://www.tayna.co.uk/battery-search-48-0-0-0-0-261x175x220-10-4-1-batteries.html both look identical to me yet one is marked 069 and the other 072, why oh why!!!!

What about the Bosch one mentioned in my post above?

Think I may have found the one I'm after: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VARTA-E24-069-072-Car-Battery-LAND-ROVER-Defender-Discovery-TOYOTA-MITSUBISHI-/190646486308?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c636a8524#ht_1284wt_1163

Seems to be the same as the Tanya one, both short code: E24. I know its no guarantee that it is the exact same model, but hey, good price!

I posted about the Halfords info being wrong (and in the shop) for the petrol model about 6 months ago. Ended up with the 072 model from there which is what they specify for the diesel.

Right, I bought the Bosch one as its dimension are identical to the Halfords one. The Varta mentioned was slightly bigger so didn't want to take the chance.

Should be here tomorrow......
