Corolla Purchase - Worried About Gearbox Problems

Looking to buy a new Corolla a 2005/06 1.4D-4D. However when researching the Corolla model I was alarmed with the reports of gearbox problems something to do with gearbox bearings?

Is there a major problem with Corolla gearboxes and does it affect the 1.4D-4D model?

I have had 2 Corollas, one on a 55 plate, no gearbox problems but it had only done 16000 miles before i sold it, the one i have now on a 56 plate 40000 miles, gearbox feels like new, both petrol engines, dont know if a diesel engine gearbox is differant
