1999 Corolla - Missing Obd Socket?

Just bought a 1999 1.3 Liftback corolla. In the interests of getting the best fuel economy possible, I bought a bluetooth OBD-II adapter to monitor the MPG via the Android app 'Torque'. Went to plug it in below the dashboard, above the accelerator.. but, there's no socket there! There is the template in the panel where it looks like it should be, but no actual socket or wiring. Were some cars produced without an OBD socket? Seems strange.. how do garages check the fault codes? Is it located somewhere else in my car for some reason?

On that Corolla, the diagnostic port is under the bonnet, and is not the standard OBD2 shape, but the old Toyota connector. (At least that's how it was on mine.) You can get adaptors for that connector on eBay, but I'm not sure if it's the same protocol.

In Europe, cars were not required to meet the standards until 2001 for petrols, and 2004 for petrols.

The prefacelift cars didnt have them mate. The facelift corolla 00-02 was the first it was introduced too.

As said above you would find a toyota dianostic socket for your ca in the engine bay and i doubt it runs on the same software sorry.

My brother's 1999 1.3 liftback has the diagnostic sockets in the engine bay.

We tried shorting the pins TE1 and E1, which should give you a flashing engine management light (no flash = no fault).

The flashes are long and short, spelling out a code (a quick search on google should find you the codes).
