Remote Centrall Locking Intermittent Then Total Fail

Hi, i have a toyota avensis 1.8 petroll 1998.

About 2 weeks ago, my remote key fob started to work intermittently, sometimes locks\unlocks the doors and sometimes no response at all. But now it has totally failed.

The centrall locking works when the key is used in the door.

i,ve replaced the batterys but with no success

i,ve made sure all the doors are shut properly,no success

i,ve tried reprogramming the keyfob using a tried and tested sequence, no success.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Try changing the 'Dome' fuse in the engine bay fuse box.

It is a normal problem for this model of car.

The fuse has degraded, but not blown. It is rated at 7.5 amps.

Hopefully this is a simple fix.

I too have a similar problem with my 53 plate 1.8 T3s. But after investigation I found that it was actually only 1 door that is not locking and this in turn doesn't allow the car to remotely lock all doors. When I pressed the remote I could here the doors all lock then unlock. However if I lock the ns/r door from the inside I can remotely lock and alarm the vehicle. This door remains mostly locked now and I can remotely lock the car without a care that it may be unlocked overnight. If I have to open this door because someone needs a ride and all other seats are used then it must be unlocked and remember to lock manually.

I hope that this helps, at the very least, temporarily resolve this problem.

thank you for your replys but sorry to say still no success.

I've tried disconnecting the negative lead on the Battery and upon reconnection the keyfob does respond by locking the doors but does not open them and after a while the key fob goes back to not working altogether. Maybe there is a sensor or something that is malfunctioning.
