Service Time.

I've had my 2003 petrol Rav for a year now, so it's due for an oil change. I've been looking back at it's service history and it's primarily been with an independent local garage, so I'm not sure if things like the diff oil will have been done. The upshot of this is that I've decided to take it to Lindops in Queensferry for the full £299 Mr T treatment. The service includes new air/oil filters, oil change, plugs, diff oil etc. How likely is it that this will be the final price? Or do extras tend to be quickly added? The car is in pretty good shape with no obvious issues, but you never know what will be found when it goes up on the ramps..

It's done 80,000 miles so far and I'd like it to last a few more years yet, so looking after it is a big priority.. I just don't want to pay through the nose for it! Any chance of a owners club discount Mr KIngo?

Cheers

Bill

The Lindops website shows that they do good deals for BASC members.. does this apply to servicing too?

I decided to take my 2000 4.2 vvt-i with 44k on the clock to my local Toyota dealer for an intermediate service. I was half expecting a load of 'faults' to be identified but to be fair the only thing they could find was that the spare tyre was 'only' 6mm. Everything else got green light. I'll be taking it back to them for the full service next year :-)

Humm, I have been quoted £330. for a full service, at 75000, same care as yours. Maybe our down south prices are heavier than yours. Also that included me supplying the filters that I previously paid for myself.

Booked the service for next week, will keep y'all posted if anything interesting happens. Helpful and knowledgable chap at the service counter whose name I didn't catch. Was it you Kingo? Anyhoo, the differential oil will be changed as an extra to the service, having had grumbling diffs and knackered bearings on previous 4x4's I don't want any problems in that department again. I turned down the offer of a change of gearbox oil as everything seems ok there.

You mentioned "helpful and knowledgeable" Bill....MUSTA BEEN KINGO'S DAY AFF.

He is Parts Manager anyway, which is a promotion given to all who must be kept in the back shoppe away from the public......

In all seriousity though, why would you say no (apart from ££££) to a gearbox oil change ? Was it done recently ? Expensive bit if it's running in old oil.......

I decided against the gearbox oil change mainly for the cost (which i sadly can't now recall). Maybe I'll have it done at next year's service, when the other bits and bobs don't need changing.

Not me Bill, as Kev says, I'm best kept locked away from public view, I have a face for radio!

Seriously though, the Toyota fixed price servicing has superceeded all previous schedules and is very good value for money. Your 80K is more than an oil change, hence the price. Our fixed price servicing is what it is-Fixed! If we find anything other than routine servicing, then we tell you before going ahead and fitting extra parts, so you will always know up front what you are going to pay

Kingo, just for interest, I have just booked my 2003 Spanish car in for a "full plus" service at Mr T in Horsham. They do not do the fixed price as the service guy said that their customers found the service "confusing"! Had I gone down the fixed price route the cost would have been significantly more than the £325 that I have been quoted. The Toyota price was virtually the same as a local specialist as well. All the oils are going to be changed, diffs ect, and I am told it takes around 2 1/2 hours.

It would be interesting to know how the price compared with Uncle P, as my car is 120000 km or 75000 miles. :driving:

Funny that! Full plus IS a fixed price service  There is confusion about fixed price servicing, let me explain The service schedule in your service book has been superceeded by fixed price servicing. The fixed price service schedule does NOT match the exact schedule in your book, so unless explained properly, it can be a tad confusing To say it would be significantly more is incorrect. I would want evidence of that, the reason for introducing FPS was to standardise the service schedule AND offer lower prices across the country as a whole Pricing of services are now generally on a par with independants Kingo

It's gone in today for it's service.. fingers crossed it's all ok! Got an Auris as a courtesy car, it's ok but I prefer my Rav.

I feel a bit guilty as my car is properly filthy, well there's no point in having a 4x4 if you don't take short cuts accross fields is there? Apologies to the staff at Lindops.

It's all been done now, and only Wiper Blades as an extra. All the oils, all the filters, plugs, diffs etc, and the total price £358.73. I have got a weeping water pump that needs to be sorted next, but I am pleased with the result. :driving:

One thing i have found with RRG Toyota services (use the one in swinton) is that you get a better deal in winter. I always get a call around the same time each year in december asking if i want to book it in. I'll always say I'l let you know, checking other prices. Soon after i get a winter service deal, with Half price MOT deal. Good discount off the Fixed price service.
