Rear Wiper On '99 Avensis Estate

My rear wiper now automatically switches on when I start the ignition and will not stop until I switch off the ignition. The steering column controls have no effect whatsoever. Apart from diosconnecting the motor is there another solution?

I believe the fault can be caused by the seals failing on the wiper splindle allowing water into the motor so remove the motor and dry it out inside. Its worth a try as it will only cost you your time.

As Pete correctly said said, check for water ingress into motor and pay particular attention to the contact slip ring, clean and dry this and then smear a small amount of vaseline onto the contact tracks and pick ups,

Thanks for the advice. I have disconnected the motor. Still puzzled about why the various operations are controlled by the motor connection but, you are the ones with the knowledge so I will follow your recommendation.
