Alloy Wheels

Hi guys,

Basically, my Auris (2007 VVT-i) is currently fitted with 15" alloy wheels but I want to upgrade to 17".

I'm new to car tuning so I have some beginner questions regarding alloy wheels.

1) Are alloy wheels universally fittable? E.g. VW, Subaru...etc. If not, what type of alloy wheels should I be looking at?

2) Are there any good places where I can get some used low/medium profile tyres? Brand new ones seem to be way too expensive.

Your help is much appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

Mike

eBay is your best bet. Your looking for 5x114.3 with centre bore of 60.1. There is makes that have suitable alloys like some civics, some mazdas, some Nissan, some Mitsubishi, theres is alot our there just gotta look for them.

Thanks for your reply.

So are you saying I should be looking for alloy wheels designed specifically for Auris only? What about alloy wheels from other Toyota models e.g. Avensis?

Rav4, 2007 Corolla sedan, Lexus IS, GS, RX, Suzuki SX4 / Fiat 16 have same wheel specifications; other cars with same PCD (5x114.3) have different center hole bore.

eBay wheels are a bit of a lottery, some are good value for money and some are that poorly made they are dangerous. My friend got some replica rays and they fell apart while he was drifting.

I'd google a wheel shop/specialist for your local area. I'm lucky and have one in my village who sorts me out with wheel and tyre packages. As mentioned already, only a certain sizing will fit. Don't go too low with the profile as the car will ride uncomfortably

Didn't mean buy new off eBay. Get some second hand wheels. If the centre bore is bigger dont worry as you can use spigot rings.

is the offset important i know the auris is rated with an offset of 35-45 so would an alloy with an offset of 30 rub?

I had 350z wheels on mine and the fronts were 18x8 et 30 and I had to put stretched tyres on to stop rubbing but it caused a problem with braking for me. Every time I went to brake it just juddered. Not to sure why but I'm now running 18x8 et 37 on front and no problems so the only thing I can put it down to I's the offset so would recommend staying above et 35.

When it comes to buying aftermarket wheels, I nearly always pick a good set of lighter rims (like Rota or Team Dynamics for example). You then get improved looks with less unsprung weight - meaning a more spritely feel at the wheel & the bonus of less weight to lug around/get rotating. My last set were 4kgs lighter per wheel & I only changed the tyre profile from 55 to 50, which helped keep a decent ride quality. They also took a hammering from the shocking state of UK roads & survived just fine !

Totally agree, I've not long put a set of team dynamics pro 1.3 on and they are fantastic, light and good looking although with the tyres they were nearly 1200! But I guess yu get what you pay for

does anyone know the widest profile tyres that will fit unmodified on a 17inch rim onto the auris, im looking at a set of alloys but they have 245/55/17 tyres fitted i would refit for 225 when the tyres wear down

245's with 55 profiles are too wide & too tall really, one size up at 235/50 is probably as much as you'd get away with. I personally would pass on those wheels.
