Rav 4 2008 D4D Bad Rear Suspension

I have a 2008 2.2 D4D Rav 4 with 85k on the clock. The rear suspension seems quite bad ie. very harsh, on bumpy tracks, even small pot holes etc. it felt like the rear dampers needed replacing so did this but made no difference. while it was up on the ramp having it's MOT I had a look along with the MOT guy but could not find any reason for this & we couldn't find anything worn or loose, in fact it is in very good condition considering the mileage. Can anybody come up with any ideas or is this something inherrant with this model, somehow I can't believe Toyota would put out a car like this.
