Auris Mmt Automatic Gear Problem

Hi i have bought two years old MMT TR Valvematic automatic S-A two weeks ago.

I have noticed today at junction where i stopped at red light on up hill in gear (E) with handbrake on ,suddenly the gear switched to neutral and car alarm started buzzing. The gear switched back to E when i depressed the brake pedal. This is first time that car was in handbrake mode for more than 3 minutes.

Has anyone got idea about this problem or is this just a feature to warn when car is stationary in E mode for longer than necessary.

Thanks.

When I had an Corolla MMT I was told that you should not hold it on the handbrake when in gear. The clutch will still be slipping, overheat, then the car would automatically warn you with a buzzer etc. If you hold it on the footbrake the clutch will be disengaged and not slipping so should not overheat.

I presume that things have not changed since my days with a MMT.
