Windscreen Reflections In Bright Sun

With my Gen III Prius I get very strong reflections in the windscreen of the top of the dashboard when driving towards bring sun: the only part without a strong reflection is the small area around the HUD, which is recessed into the top of the dash and therefore causes no reflections. Does anyone else find strong reflections very distracting - and if so, have you found a solution? My Gen II Prius also had distracting reflections, but not quite as bad as the Gen III model. Any suggestions most welcome.

Seat position and driving position? Some people seem to drive with a very laid back posture almost as if they are about to take a nap.

Dirty windscreen?

Eye test?

Different sunglasses?

I don't adopt a laid-back posture and would to have to sit with my head against the roof, leaning forward, to avoid the reflections. It was also evident right after the car was valeted and had a spotless screen, so isn't caused by a dirty screen. My eyes were tested recently and fine. Because I wear varifocal glasses I can't wear polarising sunglasses (which would solve the problem). I don't understand why the problem is worse on the Gen 3 than the Gen 2. Could it be anything to do with the water resistant coating I've read about on the front screen (which wasn't used on my Gen 2?

I was just about to post that I don't get the problem when I read that you don't have polarising sunglasses - maybe that is why it doesn't affect me. I use ordinary glasses and sunglasses both with vari-focal polarising lenses - cost a fortune but do work well.

I find the reflections are actually more of a problem when the inside of the windscreen is clean , have you considered clip on polarizing glasses I use them and they work really well.

I've tried polarising sunglasses without my regular glasses (my eyesight is good enough for that, but eye strain would set in after 1/2 hour or so). Thanks for the thought. I must look into clip-on polarising versions

I can recommend polarised overglasses like these.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/POLARISED-SUNGLASSES-Lightweight-Existing-Protection/dp/B0094G9P20/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1351342523&sr=8-4

You just put them on over your normal glasses and they work a treat in cutting down reflections in the prius. Also available in tortoiseshell finish.

I had a black towel that I just put across the top of the dash surface when I had that problem in my old car (My current one doesn't have that problem so much due to the angle of the windscreen and the fact that there's no flat surfaces above the dash to put something like a towel anyway )

I'm having trouble not so much with reflections, but what appears to be a dirty windscreen / side window / mirrors. The strong, low sun these days is playing havoc with visibility. I keep cleaning the windscreen ./ windows inside and out, but it does seem worse than I've experienced in the past. Wondering if the "water repellent glass" in the new Prius has something to do with it. (didn't seem this bad in the old Prius (before Sept 2012) )

I too wear varifocal lenses. However this is an easily and VERY cheaply solved issue.

I bought for £5 on eBay a pair of clip on polarising sunglasses and when necessary clip them over my very expensive varifocals.

OK so maybe Tom Cruise wouldn't wear them but I ain't no Tom Cruise! Don't care how 'cool' they are (or not) they just work.

Cheers,

Nope. Come with rubber covered arms. I've been using them for years with no problems. Mind you I am careful putting them on and off.

Strangely enough my Gen 3 was the only modern car I have ever owned that I did not have this problem in, and so far the Yaris hasn't shown it up either.

I think it is the angle of the dashboard and how high you are sitting in the drivers seat.

Try putting some plain black cloth over the dash and see if that works, it did in the two MK1 avensis that were awful at this time of year or in the evenings heading west....

Thanks. I've never considered them and looking at a couple of web sites specialising in the sale of them, they do mention that you have to be careful in putting them on and off, and inspect them for damage.
