Multidrive is the Toyota Avensis CVT. As far as I am aware the only current conventional (torque convertor auto) is in one of the diesel models.

If that is so then why would you go for a diesel? They are more expensive to buy, cost per litre of fuel is higher, servicing costs more and long term you have the problems with DPF and DMF.

Spoke to a long term Toyota salesman recently and he was of the opinion that Toyota would stop production of the diesel in the not too distant future and put more emphasis on the hybrids.

Just completed a round trip from Somerset to Newcastle, cruising at 75 to 80 where possible and returned 37.3 mpg.

Have never owned a Toyota before so have no other models to compare it with. Most of my cars have been medium to large automatics and this one is as good as any I have owned for comfort, space and value for money. Flick the sport mode on and it moves quickly too. My only gripe is the electronic parking brake, though I'm used to it now I would still prefer a manual one. Just had the actuator replaced under warranty, I mentioned it seemed noisy when I took it in for service and they agreed, no quibbles.

Hope you enjoy it.
