Idling/choke Problem. Revs Fluctuate Between 1-2,000 Rpm

I'm posting this for a pal of mine as his broadband is down.

He has a 2003 Corolla 1.4 petrol vvti. His automatic choke appears to be sticking on.

When he starts the car, the revs remain high but even after the car is warmed up, it fluctuates constantly between 1,000 and 2,000 rpm. It's drinking petrol as well. Any idea if this is just a simple case of lubricating the choke chain or if it's a sensor problem? Many thanks

Hi,

Not a problem I have had, but some posts suggest that the butterfly value is being held open a bit by a carbon / dirt build up.

Seems a can of carb cleaner around that area helps clear it.

Thanks oldcodger. I'll tell him to try that and see how he goes. It's been like that for a few months now. I'll let you know how he gets on.
