Iq Towbar

hello anyone tried putting a tow bar on an IQ

I don't actually need to tow anything but just to hang a sort of bike carrier (I need to carry my son's wheelchair).

Thanks

Thule make a "towbar" that their bike racks will mount onto. The towbar has a non standard ball so that it cannot be used for towing.

As Mr "T" says owners should not tow with an IQ, there are no approved towbars. However as mr "T" does not seem to have said anything about carrying bikes on a mounted rack, maybe its OK.

I have a Thule towball rack for electric bikes, on a motorhome, and it is very easy to use.

If try searching on this forum, there are one or two threads regarding this subject and I have a feeling Thule part numbers and prices may have been quoted

hi

if you search the iq forum for 'extra storage room', a guy in holland grafted a very neat towbar onto his IQ , and the was able to mount either a large storage box or cycle rack onto it.

i think it was a towbar for a punto or something like that, there's photos and a lot of details. It's definitely not a 'drop into indispension and get one fitted' job though.

You should be able to find much more by 'sweet dentist' 'peter' with a search or google or go back a few pages and look on the forum from early 2011.

EDIT< sorry, no idea why the links are not working, but the threads are still available.

search 'toyota owners club iq cycle carriers'

Or do 'toyota iq cycle carriers' in google images

For your information, Peter was a member of the Dutch IQ forum.

But the IQ forum does not exist anymore. He made a lot of pictures of the tow bar on that forum.

I think Peter is still a member of this forum but I don't see post of him the last time.

hello all

unfortunately Thule do not commercialise that special no-trail towbar in Italy since the local Motorisation Office will not allow it.

I have bad feeling I'll have to give up on my idea ....:-((((

The IQ is not rated for a towbar in the UK (nor roof bars, for that matter). Other countries with different safety standards do allow, so you can get them, but they are not legal in the UK and will invalidate your insurance if fitted.

Hi Peter and welcome to the forum

Have a look here for some ideas...

iQ towbar

As the iQ is very low powered, you might find it is not permitted to tow a trailer (but you could attach a bike rack or a box)

In UK we have a V35 logbook ,among other information is a towing capacity.

IQ = 0kg

Car is not for towing.

In the UK the IQ isn't certified for towing, but that may not be the case in other countries - the OP is from Belgium.

Have a look at Sweet-dentist's post of June 20 in the following topic -
