16" Compact Spare But 17" Wheels Fitted

Just had my first puncture on rear n/s on factory fitted 17" wheels. The compact spare is 16", must be inflated to 60psi and not exceed 50mph, which I have adhered to whilst waiting delivery of the new tyre. Strange rear drumming noise when on this configuration. Why is the spare a different size diameter? And, more important, does it have any adverse effects on the car whilst being driven? Why didn't Toyota fit a 17" compact?

I am guessing the 17 inch wheels have low profile tyres and the 16 inch spare has normal sidewalls?

The actual tyre diameters should be similar. The compact spare isn't really for driving around, more for getting you to the tyre shop.

I stand to be corrected but I thought Toyota space savers were only available in 17" size ? Of course the fixings and overall diameter would have to match the donor car even for one with 16" rims..

The height of the spare sidewall is the correct one to match the lower profile tyre on the car, dont get too hung up on the actual rim size

What model do you have with 17" rims anyway?

Appreciate all your messages - the model in question is a 2010 T Spirit. I think they all come with 17" wheels.

You have confused the life out of me! ...........not difficult

Your profile says you own a Yaris TR, but you have posted in the Hybrid/ Prius section :dontgetit:

Perhaps an update to your profile would be in order ;)
