It says in my service schedule that I need to replace the vacuum pump for the brake booster at 120k miles.

What is this?

Where would I find it?

How expensive are they to buy?

And how crucial is it that I replace it at the specified mileage?

Thanks guys!

If you use your car as a Taxi it should be serviced according to the manufacturers recommendations

It is a component on the brake servo system and if not serviced or changed your taxi insurance could be seen to be invalid

Even if the car is not used as a Taxi it is unwise to neglect servicing of the braking system particularly if it has done 120k miles!

Hello Starlight, I have attached a .pdf file covering the brakes on an Avensis, the section you want is in pages 32-33 to 32-39.

All is explained in there if you want to change, repair or overhaul the unit.

Regards Pete.
