Tapping And Clunking Noise Only On Idle ?

Any ideas all?

2005 2 l diesel avensis d4d with 130 k on the clock suddenly devloped a loud clunking tapping noise only on idle. slight push on the acc pedal removes the noise under 1000 revs, drives ok no issue at all. Sound sometimes goes on idle but mostly there all the time. it sounds it coming from top of block around the pulley sides. new oil and filter has not improved things.

appreciate any ideas and is it ok to drive it ?
