Myth Or Truth That All A-Series Engines Fits On All A-Series Trans?

Is it true that all the a-series toyota engines fit on any a-series transmission? If true can I fit a 4ag-ze motor on a 4afe gearbox(dual starter)? I'm looking for more performance what would be the best performance motor on the 4afe trans?

The clutch on a 4AGZE is 225mm not 212mm as with other A series engines, The flywheel assembly with clutch on the 4AGZE will not fit any of the other gearboxes unless you take a grinder to the bell housing, which is not reccomended. You could change the flywheel assembly to the 4AFE, but the box won't last long. The 4AGZE box [E58] is much heavier and stronger, also the driveshafts are larger diameter due to the increased power.
