Paulus17 has a good point - They do look like rubber marks??

Does the broom you use only on the "windows" look like this http://www.amazon.com/Winter-Telescopic-Broom-Squeege-Scraper/dp/B006U21S26 and are you honestly saying that it hasnt been used on the rubber side to clear the snow/ice off. Remembering that the paintwork underneath the snow will be covered in a layer of dirty gritty salty muck?

You did write..."If this Rav4's paint is so fragile that a minor sweep with a brush can cause this amount of damage then something is wrong."

The plot thickens!!

No I use this kind and only the brush part: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/B002A956Z8/ref=dp_image_z_0?ie=UTF8&n=15684181&s=automotive

Plus you really got to press hard on this to get something even remotely close to the scratches I have. Or even bang and scratch, honestly how "soft" is this paint if what you are saying can happen. I've used a similar brush for years now on a 93 Mazda MX6, 09 Mini Cooper Clubman, 2010 Huyndai Tucson, 2012 Honda CRV and not one of these has even a tiny hairline of scratches. I am ruling out the brush for sure at this point.
