Brake Pads Needs Replacing?

Hi guys,

I do own a toyota corolla e12 1.6 vvti and would like to know if it actually shows when the brake pads are worn and need replacing. Main reason i'm asking is that I've installed new discs and brakes about a year ago and although they're working fine, I would like to check if there's the need of replacing the pads. I do know that the easiest way is to inspect them myself, however I would like to know if there's actually a warning light or something in the dash which shows when pads need to be replaced.

Hi,

Think some Rolla models may have had brake wear indicators, though you do not say what e12 model yours is.

Either way I think after a years use it would be foolish not to do a physical check, sensors can fail or give false reading.

Also more than likely the caliper slider pins need a clean and lub.

Once you had your brakes fail while driving, you will always check them properly !

Hi,

There is no mention in the Haynes manual for the 2002-6 1.4 / 1.6 models having any pad wear indicators.

You will know if you had when you replaced the pads, was there a wire /assembly attached to the pads, - I doubt it.

( do not mistake the abs wire at the back of the hub for a wear indicator)
