12 Plate Yaris D4D Oil Filter Removal.

Recently bought a 12 plate Yaris D4D.

Purchased a filter and oil last week. Looked at the filter on the car last weekend. Can't work out how to remove it. Not a bit like my 07 plate Yaris D4D oil fliter assembly.

Is there some sort of special tool to do the job ?

"Is there some sort of special tool to do the job ?"

I suspect it will be the same as the 2009 on Mk2 Yaris. A filter element behind a plastic screw on/off cover with 14 flutes (flats). A special tool is required 64mm across the flats with 14 flutes (in fact it's 64mm plus a little bit!). It is difficult to find the exact size tool, some are too slack and others will not fit, in spite of them being described as 14 x 64mm.

A USA company (Assenmacher TOY640) make the correct tool, made from aluminium, which is a perfect fit.

Peter, Many thanks. I've purchased the Assenmacher TOY 640 from the USA on www.amazon.com

Should be here around March 18th.

Many thanks once again.

Hi all, i'm new to this club, first posting. Lasertools now make a tool for removing the oil filter. Part number 5160. Make from cast aluminium. I bought one last week from local factor for under £10.

I have my doubts that will fit properly, possibly not deep enough?

@bouncer - just follow the instructions enclosed in the filter element box, the "o" ring positioning shown on the box and you'll be fine. e.g. unscrew the cover about 4 turns and with the "tabs" vertical the filter housing should drain etc.. The tightening torque should be moulded onto the cover. If you've no torque wrench then don't over tighten.

The Assenmacher tool is a tight fit so make sure you are able to remove it after tightening the cover!
