Celica Gt4 St185 Stalls After Startup After 10 Sec

hi guys.i have an st185 gt4 iv been working on.the car now starts.but cuts out after around 10 seconds.you can keep it running deppressing the accelaretor but it will smoke toxic dark fumes.no error codes.iv supplied the wire that goes to the fuel pump with 12v and removed the return of the fuel rail.i then tested te pump by filling a big bottle.seemed fine with no decrease in speed i would say.when it starts runs lovelly.then kind of stalls misserably.any suggestions where i could look next guys.cheers
