Water In Rear Avensis Tourer Light

I have some 'standing' water in the rear nearside light (possibly the reversing light). Any ideas how to get it out and stop it getting back in?

The hole would have to be horizontal into the light. How big is very small?

Hi, Had the same problem last month in my 2008 Avensis Tourer. Luckily I got a years warranty when I bought it and the garage changed both rear light clusters. According to them it is the foam rubber type seal that's the problem. I didn't notice this as it was raining when I saw the car. (Look at cars on dry days) I had the same thing with a 2007 reg Auris and that cost almost £100 to change both seals as they are a swine to change. They suggested I could have drilled a hole to let the water drain, but on the Auris it was also letting water enter the boot behind the light fitting so felt I did not have a choice, as I was planning to sell the car a few months later.

You could remove the lamp unit and pour the water out if you don't fancy drilling a drain hole into your lamp.

Use sealant around the lamp when you refit it.

If you've only got condensation on the inside of the lamp unit you could use a hair dryer to evaporate the damp.

It's an old trick mechanics use when they put their cars up for m.o.t and don't want to buy a new lamp unit :)
