I read here that 18" 7.5j wheels would fit as a maximum under the iQ.

I got 17", 7,5J, ET35 wheels. On the rear they just fit, but in the front the wheel sticks out of the wheel arches.

So does that mean 7.5J is too wide? What can i do about this?

mine are 18x215x35 The offset is probably wrong. Like you mine are ok for the rear but protrude a very small amount at the front not as much as yours. maybe you should have gone for the 7 inch ones.
