Broken Dip Stick Tube

Hi

Has anyone experienced a broken dip stick tube on a 2005 1.8 petrol T3-s?

I went to check the oil levels today and pulled the dip stick but the dipstick came out still in the tube! The dip stick tube has broken off almost flush with the engine.

I've managed to put it back in but no sure if I should drive it as I assume oil will come out of the crack.

Do I need to get a replaced or will it be ok?

If it needs replacing has anyone else had this done? Any idea of cost?

Thanks

Adam

You could pop some instant gasket around the join for now, just to stop any oil coming out or anything else getting in.

I was just checking the levels etc. prior to a trip to Scotland and this has happened to me. It's not exactly in an easily accessible place. Not sure by what you mean by 'flush with the engine'. Mine has broken off where it passes a bracket which appears to shaped for the tube. I can't tell whether this bracket is fixed to the tube eg. by a weld.

Hopefully the lower part of the tube won't fall into the engine as I would imagine the drilling it fits into has a shoulder to prevent this.

Would be grateful for any further information.

Thanks,

Dickie

Sounds like the bracket has broken off ?

Its a part on its own, eg the tube connections to the engine block.

Whats actually broken, take a picture.
