Avensis T180 2.2 D-4D Cat P2002 Code Vsc Trc Engine Warning

Hi,

I got the dreaded TRC/VSC Engine warning light on my Avensis, plus the loss of power that comes with it a couple of days ago. It's the second time this has happened so I though I knew what to do...

So Up with the bonnet, off with the EGR valve for a scrub and a squirt of carb cleaner (thanks to this site for the tips!) This time though, it wasn't too clogged.

Re-assembled and this time the problem wasn't solved. I had the diagnostic codes read and it came back with

P0400 EGR SYSTEM

P0405 EGR VALVE SENSOR A

P2002 SOOT PARTICLE FILTER BANK 1

So now I’m worried - especially about the last one, P2002. Looking around this site and other sites this seems to be a replace the CAT sort of issue costing serious £££.

Some of the forum posts seem to suggest this may be covered by an extended warranty, some say this is not the case. My car is a 57 plate with 87K on the clock. It does have a full Toyota service history though - Is it worth giving Mr T a try? Does anyone have the definitive answer on this one?

Google-ing the issues flagged up another option from the Lexus site where the cars look different but the issues are the same: http://goo.gl/LcAco

Has anyone out there tried Car Surgeon in Birmingham?

And advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Singo

Hi Singomann,

Did you get this resolved?

This has just started to happen to me on my Avensis T180 56 plate.

Annoyingly my car was just fitted with a rebuilt engine in July/Aug time due to head gasket going and the engine had warped.

They first blamed that on a failed water pump but then said it had too much soot in it.

I bought a cheap fault code reader off eBay, Plugged it in, cleared the codes (and lights off the dash) and part-ex'd the car at a main dealers. The car was still running fine but I just didn't want to put up with the worry any more. Shame as I loved it...

Sorry I can't be any more help.

ok, thanks for the update.
I have spotted a DPF unit for £350 all in to fit myself (I do have a car pit to help with this) if need be.

Hi Bilb,

sorry to revive an old thread but my avensis seems to have the same problem -- some 15K after the engine was rebuilt the P2002 codes are on and the ECU cuts the power. DPNR replacement suggested by T at horrendous cost.

Have you found any other solution then?

thanks

Hi Janeko,

It seems mine was caused by the EGR valve sticking. This did get totally stuck in the end on the m1 meaning I could not get past 40 MPH so I got escorted back. The EGR valve itself wasn't too dirty however

Toyota replaced the EGR, I can't remember the price.

After this was replace it took about 4 weeks for the DBF to clean itself correctly and no further codes.

Interesting.

Did the "Intelligent Tester" show blocked DPF (as it does in my case) or something else?

thanks

Mine shown the error P2002 - SOOT PARTICLE FILTER BANK 1

After clearing this, it would last around 1 tank of diesel. This then gradually stayed off longer until now it doesn't come on at all.

I guess I managed to burn the crap out of the DPF in the end once the EGR valve was sorted.

I tried Archoil AR6500 but with little luck...

Is there a way to know FOR SURE that the DPNR needs to be changed before spending all that £££ ?
