Well yesterday my T180 bit me on the *****

I got a puncture

done some ringing around and all i got was

"need a new tyre mate, but we carnt do it".

I was told the closest place way an hours drive in Swansea (im in Cardiff).

I no about cuting the ring off myself but with work I just dont have the time and the wife needs the car for her work

I was starting to stress big time, than i come across a forum on about BMW run flats and in there

someone said thay had a rav4 with run flats and had them removed in Risca (Newport) 9 miles down the road

http://www.kingdavidtyres.co.uk/page9.html

I called them and for £45+vat (£54) per wheel they can remove the Bridgestone support ring

so it's book in for next week.

i will let you know how it go's

So that's going to be 4x £54 = £216 to remove the BSRs + 4 new tyres @ ~£150 each = £600 giving a total cost of over £800 to repair a puncture and leave you without 'run-flat' capability vs ~£200 for a replacement Dueler leaving the BSR run-flat system in tact.

I know that the BSR system is a bit of a pain in the *** but now that you've got it, it might be more cost effective to keep it ... especially now that you know you have a specialist who can deal with the system only 9 miles away.

Why not cut then off yourself ? Its a quite easy if somewhat messy task but I can think of many things better to spend 216 quid on !!

Think on,.......if he was unfortunate enough to puncture that very same tyre or another one, instead of a £20.00 puncture, he has a fifty pound POSSIBLE repair if he can find somebody willing to do it, rather than hump him again for a new Runflat......and at £200.00 they have certainly come down in price !!!!

Bin the bloody things....

Hi all

Philip42h I would love to keep the runflat but im thinking the same as Big Kev,

if I get the same thing happen next week thats £400 down the the drain.

as for doing it myself thats what smarts the most, paying someone to

do the job for me.

I was on the tools for near 20 year but changed my job and just dont have time

(10 hours a day 6 day a week for the next 3 weeks)

I had planed to do it meself when the time come to renew the tyres

and i dont what the wife driving it as is.

any ideas on tyre choice?

im phoning him on monday to see what he can get but its done to price this time around with the extra £54 each on top

cheers Phil

I got a puncture within the first few weeks of buying ours and our local Mr T (Kingo's place) do free puncture repairs on the RF tyres and I am fairly certain that most Toyota dealers offer this service as long as they have the equipment.

Have you tried Toyota in Cardiff as there is no reason why they cannot repair a puncture (unless they don't have the equipment)?

One thing to note is as much as some people hate the run flats, I carry a spare wheel to combat this and have just replaced our front tyres with more Bridgestone Duelers after we got 40k miles out of them. When you get that kind of mileage out of them £200 a corner is probably better value than a £100 a corner tyre as you probably won't get 20k miles out of them, it's just the shock of having to pay £200 each in one go :D

There is a massive thread on the Run flat tyres....

Here

http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/133751-charliefarlies-guide-to-the-bsr-system-runflats/

But the short answer is yes of course you can fit a set of either used Toyota wheels or a set of aftermarket wheels very easily and just switch or disable the TPMS and away you go.............................. Many have !

Sorry, but I just have to say, not a favour of run flats at all, because in reality they seem to bring on more stress.

In fact, when I come across a 4.3, I always look to see if there's a spare on the rear. If it has, then I think the owner thinks like me. I understand the concept about run flats, but I don't like. Proud to show off my rear on my 4.2!

Hey Phil

Am in Cardiff too and had same problem with mine! As Cardiff Toyota don't have he 'machine' I had to drive to Swansea! I just had a look at that guys website and looks as if he does them, did he say how much?

I'm seriously thinking of changing mine but one thing about the tyres they are good and last a while!

Not all Ravs WITHOUT a rear door mounted spare have Runflats.......sorry if that is stating obviousities.....

Alloy WHEELS are irrelevant.....they will accept any suitably sized TYRES. It is the tyres that are the bugbear.......remove the tyres and

fit standards.....seemples. Retain existing alloys and much sponduleez saved....

No but it is as simple as, remove the tyres, then take an angle grinder fitted with a slitting disc to the steel doughnuts . . . Fit standard non Runflat Tyres . . . Sorted.

Note the last bit FIT STANDARD NON RUNFLAT TYRES!! Under no circumstances should The run flat tyres be used without the supporting rings in place!!!
