Newbie Advice

Hi people,

I have just bought my first car ever, a Toyota auris 2l d4d 07 model.

I have to be completely honest, I'm totally clueless when it comes to cars.

I would appreciate your advice on a few issues.

Firstly, what is the best engine oil to use for this model? Also, when I'm adding is there a set amount one should add?.

Secondly, where do I add water in the engine?

Will the dashboard warn me if my engine oil/ water levels are low?

Thanks a lot guys

Welcome to the club Jason, when you say water level, do you mean the water for your windscreen wash or coolant?

Windscreen wash on my 2.2 D4D is on the drivers side near the front of the car. A blue cap if i remember correctly, I'm not 100%

Toyota preferred oil is 0W-30 ACEA2 for the 2 litre D4D (1AD-FTV) according to my owners manual. 1.7 litres between the low and the full mark on the dipstick.

As regards water: if it is water for the washer bottle, Phil_1985 is correct; if it is water for the cooling system, the reservoir is on the drivers side of the engine compartment just aft of where the bonnet stay is hinged. Rather than use just water, ready mixed ethylene glycol based long life coolant (ie Toyota Super Long Life Coolant) should be used (pink in colour).

Thanks guys. Is there a place you recommend I get this oil from at a good price.

Yes, ive seen a pink liquid reservoir . Il get the coolant for this.

I take it I just put water in the windscreen washer area?

Water is fine for the summer months, but you'll need an windscreen (anti-freeze) additive for the Winter.
