Toyota Avensis 1999 - Issue With Accelerator?

I do apologise if this has already been answered (if so can someone give me the link to the forum)

Basically I have a Toyota Avensis 1.8 (1999 Year, Automatic) when I put drive the car moves but I have to press down a lot on the accelerator pedal then the car will respond with a ***** and pick up speed.

Any ideas why this maybe? I am assuming it is not the clutch/gearbox otherwise the car will not move initially.

Thanks

Sounds to me as though part of your box isn't releasing/working as it should until the extra revs overcome it then, wham!, it engages and off you go.

Its probably time to get an auto box specialist to have a look and quote for the repairs.
