Handbrake Light On The Dash Not Working

Bought a second hand 2001 Corolla over the weekend. Really nice car, however have noticed the handbrake light in the dashboard is not working when I apply the handbrake.

Any advise on what I should be checking to fix this? Fuse, bulb or something else? Thanks in advance!

Hi,

No actual experience of your model, but its just likely to be one of two things.

The switch at the base of the handbrake lever, could be a faulty switch, out of position or a broken wire.

The other could be a blown bulb on the dash, though it could be a led ?

Easiest to check out the handbrake switch first as dash removal could be tricky.

Not sure about it having its own fuse, would think its connected with other function, but you will have to check the books for your model to be sure.

Thanks codger. I bought the Haynes manual yesterday so hopefully this will explain how to access the handbrake switch.
