Hi I have a 2001 Rav 4 and when I use the key in the door it only unlocks the door that the key is in. The odd thing is the central locking works fine from the button inside the car on the drivers door. does anyone know what it might be

My 2000 Rav4:

From the driver’s side, I unlock the front door by turning the key once -

- but when I turn the key twice to the right, it unlocks all four doors.

On the passenger side, I turn the key once and the passenger door also unlocks.

That is normal operation with the key.....If you want to use the key only then you would have to press the button to lock all the doors exept the drivers one (which will be open)....then close the drivers door and lock with key.

On my 2003 Rav4 the key only unlocks the door you use it in. Central locking is controlled either by the button inside the door or by the remote keyfob. Just be aware that if you lock the doors with the remote which sets the alarm....if you then unlock the door with the key the alarm WILL sound. Only the remote will then turn off the alarm although you can start the car and drive off with the alarm going off.

Hope that helps, Lee

My 2000 is the last model of the first generation Rav 4. Your Rav is a re-design (second generation) and sounds like you have a different key/locking system than mine. Glad your squared away now..
