Abs Sensor

Hi, i have a 1999 gx model and i seem to have a problem when braking. The front offside wheel seems to have a ratchet feeling to it. I have changed the discs and pads and checked the speed sensor ring which is an integral part of the cv joint and this seems ok. I have tried to remove the sensor but it is reluctant to come out. Would i be correct in thinking that this is the sensor that is faulty and go ahead and replace it anyway ? Thanks.

Only time I have had an ABS sensor go was on a Golf and it threw a ABS error code and the ABS warning light was on.

Have you any warning lights ?

I think ABS sensors are expensive on the RAV, if you have a friendly Toyota dealer they can tell you in a second if the sensors are working by connecting the diagnostic computer and rotating a wheel.

I would have a chat with the service dept first see if you can beg a favour :-)

I don't know about the Rav ABS system, but I'd have thought ANY fault would bring a light up. Maybe electrical faults would but mechanical ones don't?

Dave

I have a LR so by default know about ABS errors- very common and frequent and expensive usually!!

Could be an exciter ring on the drive shaft (don't start you lot).

Thanks for the help guys, i would have thought that an ABS fault would bring a light up on the dash but nothing comes up ? A new sensor alone is about £160.00 so not cheap ! As for the exciter ring (no i won't) i have looked in my manual but i can't find it. Thanks again.
