hi

driving to work today, i noticed the enging temperature needle move up to 3/4 of the up.

(normally its stead at half way)

i pulled the car in imediately, and checked the resovior, which was damn near empty.

i gave it 10 minutes to cool down, and then i added water to the resevoir.

drove into work (30 minutes away), the needle was back at the correct level.

so, what should i check next once i get it home. (im going to check the level to see if its loosing any water)

should i add coolant? if so, is there any specific colant to add to these diesel engines.

any other suggestions. thanks

Check your engine oil for signs of coolant contamination - usually a creamy deposit on the oil filler cap. Look for obvious coolant leaks and see if the hoses are pretty solid when the engine is hot - that will tell you if the system is holding pressure.

To be honest you probably want it to go in for a professional check up including a test of the head gasket.

it doesnt appear to be loosing engine oil beween services.

got it serviced there, have to bring it back in to check pressure etc, will do that shortly.

just wondering, if it is a head gasket issue, are toyota honouring a 112k warranty on these models.

car was bought in NI, and now is in the republic of ireland.

thanks

I think its a UK warranty so pop up the road and you may be in with a shout. Stay in the south and you may not be so well looked after.

Please note that I only think, I don't know.
