Hi all, I hope someone can help me here. My passenger side sun visor keeps dropping down and won't stay up, much to the annoyance of my wife. My question is can this be repaired or will it have to be a new one, If new how easy is to fit ?

Regards

Dave

I've just been through this with my 2006 Rav. If you do a search you'll find lots of patch-up solutions involving tape, glue, cocktail sticks, self tappers etc. They all seemed pretty ugly and unlikely to be a permanent solution to my mind.

One that might work ok is the use of supermagnets, the tichy little but very powerful button sized things you can buy. You can put one (or more) in the lining of the visor (or glue to the surface I guess) and another in the headlining (easier if you have a sunroof to get access).

Ultimately I got a secondhand visor from a breakers. Unfortunately it's a fairly common and known problem so the visor cost me £48!

Lidl sometimes have 3M Klett-Power pads - self adhesive re-closeable fastener pads. One side of the fastener to go on the visor, one on the headlining. Might be worth trying, rather than spending £40 or so on a replacement visor. The adhesive on the pads needs 24 hours to achieve full strength.

The ones I have are approx.19mm in diameter. If you PM me your details, I can send a couple to you.

I'm a bit of a womble so come across all sorts of sources of materials and devices on a daily basis ( OK, maybe I should get out more! )

If you dismantle a scrap computer HDD you will find at least two of these supermagnets. They are fitted to brackets to enable them to be located accurately in the drives but can be removed easily with a small chisel or old screwdriver.

I already use two of these in the RAV to hold a small cushion in place on the drivers door where I rest my ( replacement ) knee on long journeys.

PS The discs themselves make excellent mechanics mirrors for lining up fastenings in hard to access areas. I'm not the only one on here using one!
