Toyota 5Yr Warranty

The Auris HSD (2010) T Spirit I'm due to collect this week was registered on 26 June 2010. I'm buying the car from Bristol Street Ford so would the original Toyota 5yr warranty (or what's left of it at least) still be valid? Salesman at the dealers who used to work for Toyota seemed to think so but my dad (whose toyota through and through) seemed to think 5yr warranty offered by toyota only started in September 2010?

My Prius was first registered on 9/06/2010, and has a 5yr warranty. I believe the 5yr warranties started on 1/06/2010, presume Auris ( & all Toyotas?) would be the same.

See www.toyota.co.uk then click owners tab then warranty. You should find a page stating 5 years for HSD registered after 1st June 2010.

Toyota GB decided to offer the five year warranty from 1st June 2010 as a measure to restore confidence after the accelerator recall - so it applies to all Toyotas registered on or after this date. See http://blog.toyota.co.uk/‘my-toyota-is-your-toyota’-a-commitment-to-quality-with-a-5-year-warranty-for-all-new-toyota-cars

The five year warranty is peculiar to the UK - rest of Europe has the standard 3 year/60,000 mile warranty.

Suppose the one thing to check is the service history - has the third year service been carried out?

Valid point..........does it have ANY history?

If Bristol Street are carrying out a service on your Auris prior to you collecting it, get them to use 0W-20 oil, as that is the Toyota preferred oil for hybrids.

Bet that wont happen!!

It is not prefered oil but mandatory on Auris Hybrid

"Bet that wont happen!!"

Probably not, but no harm in asking.

Huh? Why wouldn't the car have a service history!? The Ford dealer is most likely selling the Toyota that they got as a trade-in against the sale of a new/newer Ford motor vehicle. As the car is relatively new, the Ford dealer probably figured they'll make a profit - it can't be that difficult Toyota dealers seem to be able to sell them!

The car I believe was traded in for a new Ford. With the Hybrid being a specialist car it sat there for over 75 days with no one interested in buying it. The dealer has said it has a full service history (not sure when the third one would have been done tbh especially if it was traded prior to 3rd service due). Ford serviced it today with MOT for me so that 'could' well be the 3rd service. When I pick it up and prior to any finalising I'll specifically ask to see the service book with stamps etc.

If the Ford dealer has serviced it, I doubt that it will have the 0W20 oil in, most fords use 5W30 these days.

Is the 5w30 oil going to cause a problem?

No mechanical problem as it is in the viscosity range of allowed oils, but you will lose a couple of mpg. 5w is thicker than 0w when cold and the 30w is thicker than the 20w when hot. you may find the transition from electric to petrol power a bit more noticable too, especially from a cold start. Ask the Ford dealer which grade of oil they used (or see if it's listed on the service invoice, if they give you one) and if they did in fact use the Ford 5w30, I would change the oil again to the 0w20 grade (the filter should be ok as it's new).

Note: See the engine oil post at the top of the forum, the Auris has the same powertrain as the Prius.

I only ask as it is perculier to see a Hybrid traded in at a Ford dealer and wonder why it was traded in there. I'm not saying there is anything dodgy with that, I would just want to make sure that it did have history, you would be amazed how many cars out there have no history at all, not even a first service, oil change or wipe over with an oily rag! I just wanted to make sure the OP checked because he will not have a 5 year warranty if it has no history eh?

If not, any Toyota dealer can call up the service history.

Any Toyota dealer can pull up the TOYOTA service history, but not if it has been serviced outside the network

I get to check a lot of history and very often comes back as NIL history, although it may have been serviced at independants, but of course we cannot see that online

Yes, I probably would be amazed.

Now you mention it, I did buy a Vectra one time, and the previous and only owner had been the Vauxhall company and that didn't have a complete service history - it was doubtful after 18,000 miles whether it had even had a first service. You can't rely on anybody especially the motor trade it would seem! :euro:
