'oil Maint' Warning Light On Dash. Sr180

Wifes car. '08, 55k miles. Serviced 6wks/<5k miles ago.

On her way to Wales today the Oil Maint light has popped up on the dash.

Am I right in thinking that this not related to oil pressure but to nagging for an engine oil/filter change?

I hope the answer to this is a resounding YES. The car uses a bit of of oil, doesn't lose it. Is this a 2.2D-cat thing? Oil used is 5W30 fully synthetic low ash. Can't remember the brand offhand.

Presuming this is a nag screen, can anyone tell me how to reset the oil maint warning please.

Again presuming, I suppose I should have a word with Mr T about what was done, or not done, at the last (full) service only a few weeks ago.

Apologies if this has been discussed before, but I can't find anything.

Thanks very much,

Nick.

if its a low level or low pressure id be more worried but it sounds like a oil service warning

According to the owners manual, it just indicates the oil should be changed. For the 1AD-FTV engine the warning should come on after approx. 18,000 miles after the oil has been changed. Also states that the indicator will not work properly unless the 'oil maintenance data' has been reset. There are some instructions for resetting this, which I can provide - two methods (one for a smart entry & start system and one for without).

Thank you. Wifes car does not have smart entry/start system [1]. I'm befoggled that this should happen shortly after a full authorised dealer service.

Instructions for resetting would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Nick.

[1] nor does wife, needs to be warmed up. Sometimes difficult to start.

Vehicles without a smart entry and start system:

1. Whilst the engine is running, using the odometer/trip meter display change button (on the right of the instrument cluster), switch the display to show the odometer.

2. Turn the engine switch off

3. Whilst pressing the odometer/trip meter button, set the engine switch to the ON position (but do not start the engine otherwise the reset mode will be cancelled). Continue to press and hold the button until the trip meter displays "000000".

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks very much Frostyballs.

I'll give this a try when wife returns on Monday.

Odometer being the total mileage, not either of the trip counters

Do I keep the display change button pressed whilst turning off and on?

As I am in odometer mode, how will I know if the trip meter displays "000000"?

Hopefully this will all become clearer when I try it.

Thank you for your time and help.

Nick.

Yes - odometer is total mileage.

I presume after step 1 shows the odometer, you stop pressing the button.

Then at step 3 you press the button whilst putting the engine switch to on. Think keeping the button depressed will make the display keep changing between the odometer and the trip meter(s),
