Trip Computer Range Calculation

I own T22 2001 D4D 2.0 Avensis Estate. I would like to ask how to make trip computer to recalculate the range. Sometimes, when I park my car on a road which is not even, when my car becomes oblique, the fuel needle of course rises up (after a short while on a straight road it evens like ti should) and then trip computer calculates range (adds +100km or so) and stays that way. Then I have half a tank and it says that I can go 800km!.

Try disconnecting the Battery for 30 minutes - it may reset the trip computer.

Well,I find my range reading can be the same,it'll also fall by 30 or 50 miles when I've done a 3 mile trip.

I'll have had my 52 1.8 vvti a year by the middle of next month and I've found that the range figure is at best a guideline.

Having said that I reset my av. fuel consumption when I first got the car and it gives a good working baseline figure for a much more accurate range reading.

When I fuel up I do a simple calculation.

price per litre

£1.38 x 4.54 = £6.265

to give the cost of fuel in gallons

then £30 / £6.27 = 4.78

to find out how many gallons I get

putting in 30 quidsworth of fuel

then simply multiply gallons by

the average fuel consumptin.

4.78 gal x 38.8 mpg = 185.5 m

then I reset my trip meter on the

speedo to zero and know my

range is basically 185 miles and

I've come to trust my range calc

much more than the trip comp

which has to have at least a tenner

or more in the tank or it reads 0.

It's also kind of interesting to the two range figures against each other.
