New Clutch And Pressure Plates. Noisy Power Steering When Reversing. R

I bought a 2010 plate Auris a couple of weeks ago. Have had a few problems with it and so took it back to the dealership today. Most issues now resolved (I hope!)

One of the problems is that when I reverse it sometimes sounds like the power steering is making a right racket..but this is not all the time. The girl at the desk saidthat I needed to bring the car back and get a new clutch and pressure plates. Unfortunately the mechanic wasn't around for me to ask why that would make the power steering / car sound so noisy only on occasion in reverse.

Can anyone please shed some light on this for me? I know its all being paid for by the warranty but I sti want to know!

Many thanks

With all due respect to "the girl at the desk" there would not seem to be a connection between the two. If the power steering was the problem it would make the same noise going forward as in reverse, likewise the clutch. If it only happens in reverse then it is more likely to be a gearbox problem. Either way as it is still under warranty get it back to them as soon as possible for the fault to be identified and rectified.
