New Iqs

While waiting to pick up Mrs. Wife's car one afternoon I noticed a couple of new iQs on the floor. I was chatting to the showroom totty and apparently they were both fitted with the CVT transmissions. A couple of years ago you couldn't find many cars which came with them but now they almost seem to be standard issue. Has the CVT concept come full circle and they're now back in favour? Just curious.

I only drive automatics and like CVT's since my first one in a Daf then a Volvo. the 1.0 Multidrive iQ was almost perfect in matching a Engine and transmission.

My experience of Toyota Dealerships and else where is more or about the same amount of CVT's than manuals with the 1.0 & also quite a lot of 1.3 Multidrives.

(checking it looks like slightly over 2 Manuals sold for each 1 Multidrive.)

I have just never considered that they were out of favour, since the iQ's with CVT was launched.

Other manufactures do some pretty good CVT boxes now, but i have yet to drive one that i enjoy as much as in the iQ.

I've got an IQ3 with CVT. I don't know why anyone would want a manual. I'm never going back. I used to be a manual lover, but a computer can definitely change gear faster than I can. This is the first CVT that I've had though. I think it's excellent and love the smoothness of it. It definitely beats Smart's "auto". I totally disagree with all of the reviews that say the CVT should be avoided in favour of a manual. Horses for courses though. My wife prefers a manual but that's because she hasn't spent any time with an auto so doesn't get how much easier it makes driving, and faster in my opinion.
