Could anyone give ma a link to the ariel adapter please ?

Try this : http://www.connects2.co.uk/ProductInformation.aspx?id=15214

Would it be possible to take a pic of the ariel connections for the B9004 to confirm ?

If that is the right one... loads of places sell it..

A most huge and massive thanks to Liz and Mike for the help with the 9017 unit !!

A pleasure to meet with Mike this evening (Warra nice bloke !) I hope I did not keep him in the local hostilery gassing about cars for to long !

Seeing the wheel conversion to your car makes me regret not doing that to my one.. What a quality job ! I was particularly impressed with the colour match and quality of the paintwork ! I meant to ask Mike for details of the body shop that did the paint !

Again sincere thanks !!

Charlie.

No problem... hope you get it all working.. :)

I had a nice evening on my own with the telly & a large baileys... . :naughty:

Hope he didn't bore you to death with talk about car cleaning and his Landy...

I'll PM you with the details of the paint place...

According to Mike you don't look like your avatar then... :)

(I guess I'll find out for myself if you come to see us in the spring..)

It looks it. The blue wire is the power supply output from the head unit for the antenna amplifier. For units with the newer antenna connector it's been moved from the unit's main power connector to be incorporated with the antenna connector.

I have been ringing round audio fitters/centers in our area trying to locate the aerial adapter and finished up speaking to a technical guy at Celsus UK who make the leads.. He say I must find out if the units are compatible.. IE Resistive or can-bus ??? This of course makes no sense to me as he may have well been speaking double dutch...

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me either, not concerning an antenna. Hmmm.

The only thing I think he can be referring to is the steering wheel controls. They are resistive. There is no CAN bus connection on this unit.

We'll just have to assume that's what he was on about and that he wasn't talking from his lower orifice.

To be honest Im amazed at how these Audio people stay in business... I went to one installer in Droitwich and explained I wanted to fit a slightly later unit into a Rav4 to which he replied "It cant be done cos one is amplified and the other is not" So I asked which one was the amplified one and he didn't know..

None will touch the job because they say they would be held responsible if they gubber (One of Kevs words) the unit being fitted.. But still shrug shoulders when I reply I will not hold anyone responsible for anything.....

Ahhhhh Building is so easy............................

Think you are right about how they keep running, Charlie, especially as they need to be upping their game with the newer gear!

Must concur about these car stereo peeps (they HATE being called something that simple.......)

They usually have a great view of their own tonsils coz their heads are so far up their orifices. Have found one up here though.....no cheap, people of few words, good at what they do.

I've found them to be absolutely stunning and really helpful . . . .

. . . . . When you are spending a couple of grand!!

Other than that a right shower, good thing for me is that I can do most of it myself . . . I just end up with a box of spare parts :(

Guessing that it was not a straight swap, how much extra work involved Charlie ? do you also have the camera ?

It's something I've been thinking about myself if I come across a head unit, or when Kev next goes on holiday

Well Andy says it was simple... But the truth is it would have been very difficult for me to do.... 6 or. 7 wires had to be removed from a large I think. 24 pin connector and re distributed to a different connector and one removed and moved within the same one....

My hands are like bunches of bananas so this removal if the tiny pins would have been a right game ... The Ariel adapter also had to be wired up before it would accept a signal ..

In no way would I describe the job as a straight forward swap. ....

Andy has done the pin swaps for the camera so I will have a nose round on here to see if I can complete the job ...

Hmmm, in days of y'old the first thing I used to do after buying a car was upgrade the stereo, hacking into the loom

is not for the light hearted. On RAv4 World they seem to favour aftermarket units and using adapter leads for the

steering wheel controls. Will have to think about this one, anyways, glad you are sorted.

Every so called Car Audio specialist I went to just hadn't got a clue, The first one who specializes in custom installations declared it was simply not possible because the 9004 was not amplified and the 9017 was ! I of course had not a scooby but thought Andy would have already said this when the subject first came up.. He was of course talking utter bowlarks ..

Another said the ariel adapter was resistive and the 9017 unit was resistive,, Again complete and utter carp...

Hacking into the loom is not as you say for the faint hearted.. Even with Andys instructions Im still happy I did not have a go.. The Fire brigade have enough to do I think !

Hey anders, how many bits of Charlies dash did you manage to annex?

And I hope you made a good job on the wireless (hacks the car radio shops off even more) like I showed you last time you came on a training course.

Eeee it takes me back to my fist Shira Touring positive earth wireless.........

How about a photo of the completed installation Charlie? Do the steering wheel controls for the phone work?
