Steering Wheel Switches.

Recommended Posts

Hi, new to this section of the club, as I have just recently purchased a 2008 T-spirit Prius 1.5 and this morning was the first outing in darkness. I noticed that the switches on the steering wheel for audio and air con were not illuminated. Is this normal or do I have a fault. Would appreciate if anyone con give me an answer. Can't find anything in manual.

Oh, they are illuminated.

It's just that Toyota's idea of illumination requires you to be in a darkness only found in interplanetary space on a dark night with a blindfold on, and then you will see they produce exactly three photons an hour.

They are very very very dim.

I think Toyota expect you to use the feel of the switches to know where you are. One has a little "pip" on it, one is convex and one is concave, so you get to know which is which by a sort of Japanese braille system.

Actually it's ok once you've used them a few times, and of course if desperate, you can talk to it to ask for it to get warmer or change the CD or whatever. Of course, to do that you have to press the "talk" switch...
