Diagnostics Software?

hi all can anyone advise me on what diagnostic software i need to get to diagnose the eml light on my 1994 st205 gt4 3sgte please and what lead will i need to plug it into my laptop please

Those systems tend not to be quite so in depth as you may want, which is understandable seeing as the full TEXA CANbus compatible software/hardware packages cost tens of thousands.... you don't have CAN on such an old car of course, but my point is you need advanced diagnostics software in order to get a definitive answer. Cheaper systems either don't work or offer such a vague code that you may as well have performed engine diagnostics the old fashioned way.

Are there any symptoms other than the light? For example, does the engine cut out or limit the engine speed more than the standard limiter?

If the light is the only issue then you can always try resetting the ECU - this generally involves disconnecting the Battery for 5-30 minutes depending on the vehicle, and then reconnecting the Battery. Chances are a code was thrown up a while ago that the ECU hasn't yet cleared from the fault code store.
