Audio, Radio Connection Of Mp3. Car Has Inbuilt Ipod Trailing Lead

My 2008 Corolla Verso appears to have a built in trailing lead that terminates in a small glove/vanity compartment in the dash. It has an ipod/apple connector. I do not have an ipod/apple device and would like to connect my mp3 player which has the standard stereo mini jack connector socket.

Is there an adapter lead available I can connect to the trailing lead? (All items I have found on the internet state they do NOT work with in car ipod trailing leads).

Alternatively, how do I connect a stereo mini jack lead to the audio unit? Will I have to take the car apart?
