Noise Like Clutch Slip

Can anybody help please.. i have a 2012 avensis1.8 manual, and whilst it has been faultless, when i need to overcome an obstruction i,e, a hill start or when pulling away whilst in a pot hole there sometimes can be heard a slipping noise for a short time from the engine area. It is not associated with the handbrake as it happens when the brake is not in use ....THANKS.

If your clutch is slipping you should be able to replicate the symptoms whilst driving. Try over-revving a gear - by that I mean you could try accelerating hard out of a roundabout. If your clutch is on its way out the car will accelerate steadily at low revs but as the revs increase the counter needle will swing freely into the red without any increase in vehicle speed.

If you have the original clutch they are normally good for around 110-120K miles

Thanks for the replies, to be honest its only done 4700 miles so a belt slipping would tck all the boxes.
