Hi,

Just wondering, rather than cutting out the link arms to get the rear axle out. Are the casings the same on the XT (4.1:1 non LSD) and GT (1981 RA40) rear axles?

Can i just swap the diffs?

Thanks

Tony

Hi mate,

Do a search under stephos hompage, or one for toyota diffs, and u will come across a site with all the info u will need... i think. look at axle width etc. but im guessing they should be the same....

Chances are, the cases are the same (both drum rear, right?) but you will likely need to use the halfshafts/bearings that came with the LSD as well.

That's an educated guess, based on my knowledge of Toyota open vs LSD shafts incompatibilty issues....

Based on the TA22/23 axle casings they are different internally, the LSD axle having two oil baffles internally where the axle tube widens before the diff mounting flange, the non LSD casing does not.I assume the 40 series axles will be the same.Pop the diffs out and have a look
