The engine management light comes on whenever the Engine Control Unit records a fault, until that fault is cleared using diagnostic equipment. It could be something fairly trivial which won't cause any harm to the engine (one of my parents' cars showed the ECU light when the brake pedal switch failed) or it could be something serious and potentially damaging your engine. From the information you've given there's no way of knowing which it is or how much it will cost.

it is a 1994 ceilca gt4 it comes on sometimes when it starts and left idling for long period of time if i turn off the car then turn it back on it goes off and stays off. was told at garage it was intercooler level to low they topped it up then it started again dont think they have a clue. i heard you can cross te1 and t1 in diagnostic box and the dash will flash out the coad of what it is. i thought it was one of the lambda sensors as it does it on idling. could it be charge cooler level low
