Wiper Blades

Hi guys,

Am I correct in saying a bit of rubber, ie refill, costs £11 a side?

I bet that costs £2 with a 800% markup.

Please tell me I'm not going mad!!!!

I need to sort my wipers on IQ3.

Cheers.

Have you tried sending Parts King a personal message asking what price he can supply the refills for?

Adam thanks for that link. The IQ already has the flat look aero style blades. Main stealer suggested refills at £11 a pop. I see Wiper Blades.co.uk sell refills for cheap, anyone used them? I can only assume they will either not fit or need heavy mod using a pair of scissors.

Frostyballs - who is parts king and how do I get hold of him please?

Thanks!

If you already have flat, aero type blades I don't think they are original ones. The iq normally has a blended shaped plastic wiper cover with a normal metal style blade underneath.

If your's have been changed then unlikely the standard refills will fit.

Attached is a picture from the manual showing what the standard ones contain.

Can you post a picture of your wipers to see if they are similar?

I replaced my Wiper Blades with refills from PIAA. They are silicone Wiper Blades so leave a silicone coating on the screen after a few hours of use. This acts like a never ending rain-X treatment and water that hits the screen beads and slips it's way up the screen in the air flow. I now use the wipers far less than I needed too before.

They aren't cheap and you need to buy 22" wiper refills as they are a bigger profile and then cut them to length but with a bit of thinking and care, they fit perfectly. :)

Craig.

Go to the Community page, scroll down to Sponsors Corner, and Lindop Toyota (Parts Kings) is the 5th sponsor listed.

Under Toyota's fixed price repairs 2 front blades (not just rubbers) for an IQ should be £21 incl. fitting.

If you don't mind the outlay, +1 for the PIAA's, they are fantastic! No more squeaky wipers, will clear even light drizzle from the windscreen silently instead of smearing it into an opaque blurry mess and making a sound like a tortured cat. After a few months use, it lays down enough silicone that you don't even need to user your wipers above 50mph because water just beads off! :D

Also makes scraping the front windscreen a lot easier when it's iced over :)

Mine have lasted far longer than the Bosch, Halfords and toyota wipers I've used have (Usually the wipers fail, not from the blade wearing out, but from the thin rubber bit that the blade pivots around cracking and making the whole blade shear off). Honestly, superior in (almost) every way to normal rubber wipers.

The only downside (And it is a big one) is the cost; ~£20 for a blade and mount (~£10 for just the blade) *each* vs. maybe a fiver or a couple of quid for a set of normal wipers, but they are worth the money IMHO!

Toyota could only supply me the rubbers (edit: without the metal stiffening strips; you have to reuse the ones from the current blades) for our 59 reg iQ. The plastic blade carriers not available through Toyota as replacement items.

Yes you are correct dash. I have the same as you, the car has the factory blades.

Looks like I will have to bite the bullet and get the rubbers from the Main Stealer.

Thanks guys.

Thanks Adam for the links.

If I buy the refills, web code: WB-REFILL28, have you ever fitted them?

For £3.95 they are significantly cheaper than Mr T, but I can only assume its a Blue Peter job.

Comments???

The proper refills have rubber 'barbs' for holding them in position.

You'll need to be sure the ones you're looking at have a similar feature.

Also, I should have said in my earlier post, you have to re-use the metal strips from your existing blades (they are not supplied with the refills provided by Toyota)

I have opted for the main dealer stuff.

I ordered it via eBay - front and rear mudflaps and both front Wiper Blades, all original Toyota for £53 delivered.

Does anyone have any instructions on the wiper blade fitment so that I can do my homework beforehand?

Cheers!

Hi guys,

Changing the wiper rubbers were a doddle.

dash was spot on.

What I did was flicked the small clip, took the wipers off the car completely.

Then took them inside and carefully pulled the rubbers out. They slide out with the metal rods which I reused.

All in all it took 5mins in total.

Happy days they work spot on cleansing my windscreen free from rain.

Cheers.
